How to Improve Your Dry Ice Blasting Technique

Improve your dry ice blasting with these tips.

Dry ice blasting is a fantastic way to remove dust and grime buildup on your machinery or industrial equipment. When done correctly, it’s proven to be safe and effective not just for your equipment but for your employees too. Safety and efficiency should always be the top priorities when using dry ice to clean. So, how do you ensure that you’re using the proper technique?

The Right Materials for Dry Ice Blasting

The beginning of any good dry ice blasting technique is making sure you have the proper tools to get the job done right. To start, you should make sure that you have an appropriate blast unit and you’ve inspected all of the parts. Pieces like guns, nozzles, and hoses should always be looked over for damage before blasting. Any safety equipment you’re going to use should also be double-checked for any damage before blasting.

Technique for A Perfect Clean

Here are a few dry ice blasting tips to get your equipment as clean as possible, with no damage or wasted product.

  1. Be Aware of Your Hose: A kink in your hose can damage the machine and lead to injury. Maintain distance from any hot surfaces as well.
  2. Prevent Spray Overlap: Going over a section you’ve already sprayed to “make sure” it’s been covered can actually do more harm than good! Your first sweep over an area will clean it well, so there’s no need to go over it again.
  3. Maintain a Safe Distance: We recommend keeping a little bit of space, about two to six inches, between your nozzle and the equipment you’re cleaning.
  4. Use a Sweeping Motion: Take your time and maintain a steady pace, using an up and down sweeping motion. Going too quickly will result in missed space, and going too slowly could extend the time it takes to clean.

As always, to get a perfect clean every time, hiring a professional is a great choice. A professional will have all the proper equipment to clean your space as quickly, efficiently, and safely as possible.
