Ideas for Dry Ice Effects

Because of dry ice’s unique properties of steady sublimation, it can be used to create a smoky or steamy effect. Throughout the years, people have used this unique property to create a wide variety of special effects.

Dry ice can be used to make some really cool effects.

Dry ice can be used to make some really cool effects.

Dry Ice Fog

Dry ice can create a thick fog effect which can be made even denser when combined with a fog machine. The dry ice sits in the machine which collects the fog for a period of time and then blows it out in the form of a thick mist. The cold air with its frozen water vapor sinks and collects on the floor for a unique misty appearance. This surreal effect is often used in concerts to make a dramatic entrance, in dance clubs to add to the atmosphere, and even at weddings to create a “dancing on clouds” effect for the bride and groom’s first dance.

Wet Ice

Dry ice can create an incredible effect on its own but the impact can be augmented by combining it with warm or hot water. This can be done by placing a bowl of hot water and dry ice on a table and on top of it laying a smaller bowl filled with snacks or punch. The combination of the two bowls creates a cauldron like effect as dry ice fog flows out of the bowl and pours onto the table and then onto the floor. Dry ice can also be put into hot tubs and baths in order to create a bubbling effect and release fog. Another application is cooling and partially carbonating drinks very quickly. As with all dry ice applications, make sure that you understand dry ice safety and ensure that you not to ingest or directly touch it.
