Some of the Most Fun Activities to Do with Dry Ice
Dry ice has many different uses as it is a CO2 in a solid form and sold at a temperature of about -109 degrees Fahrenheit, which is extremely cold. It will also sublimate within the first 12 to 24 hours you purchase it. To get the most out of it, you have to act quickly after obtaining it from the store. Read on to learn about a few of the most fun activities and experiments you can do with dry ice!
Place a normal ice cube and a cube of dry ice side by side on different plates and watch to see that the dry ice will disappear mysteriously! Unlike standard ice cubes, the dry ice will disappear without a single trace of water as it sublimates right into thin air without going into a liquid form.
Place a piece of dry ice in some warm water and watch as the dry ice transforms into a solid cloud of CO2 and water vapor. With the right safety precautions, this cloud is safe for you to touch, make sure not to touch the dry ice itself. Eventually, the dry ice will cool down the water, and the cloud or smoking effect might lose its shape. You could add more warm or hot water to keep going until the dry ice is gone too. Another fun way to go about this activity is by dropping it in the toilet!
Combine some warm water and add a couple of drops of liquid dish soap into a tall glass or cylinder. Carefully place the dry ice into soapy water using tongs or gloves. With the dish soap liquid in the mix, the soap within the water traps the CO2 and water vapor to form a big bubble. Add some food coloring into the water for colorful bubbles in the mixture. You could also add a neon glow stick into the water for some fun. This is perfect for parties, especially around Halloween time.
Bubbly, Cold Beverages
Speaking of parties, add dry ice to your punch bowl to make a fun and spooky beverage. This is fun at any time of the year, but as mentioned before, perfect for Halloween time to add that spooky vibe to the party!
