Fun Ways for Using Dry Ice This Halloween

Fun Ways for Using Dry Ice This Halloween

Dry ice is the perfect fog-maker for Halloween, even better than your usual fog machine.

Dry ice is the perfect fog-maker for Halloween, even better than your usual fog machine! Dry ice, which is ice as a solid carbon dioxide, can be used for all kinds of purposes during Halloween. Common decorations include fogging punch bowls, a fogging cauldron, and even a jack-o-lantern spewing out the white mist. While these are all well-known, fantastic, and easy tricks to pull off, you could also try some other things this Halloween. Here are some other exciting ways to use dry ice on Halloween!

Dry Ice Inside a Metal Bowl

If you want not only a scary look to your home but an ominous sound too, consider putting the dried ice in a metal bowl every time someone comes around to trick-or-treat. Depending on the size of your dry ice chunk, the ice will instantly start to ring with an odd sound. If the piece is bigger, it might produce a low, rattling noise. If it’s smaller, the sound might be like a piercing shriek. Don’t place the dry ice inside a bowl of any other materials than metal, though. The freezing cold temperatures of solid CO2 will cause fine china, crystal, or glass to shatter.

Candy Bowl with Dry Ice

You might have heard of using dry ice in punch bowls at parties before. You can do this by placing a punch bowl inside a bigger bowl containing dry ice and warmer water pieces. Creating a spooky candy bowl for trick-or-treaters is very similar. Perhaps one way to imitate this is just by placing some candy inside the punch bowl instead. One other way to set it up is to elevate the candy bowl. Put the metal bowl upside down inside a big bowl or cauldron, then add a bit of dry ice and warm water, and place the candy bowl on the top. All trick-or-treaters will have an experience of a lifetime!

Dry Ice Inside Your Sink

If you intend to host an indoor Halloween party and want to have a bit of fun, make your kitchen sink that ultimate spooky machine! Close up the sink drain and fill up the sink with some warm water. Then put in a large handful of dried ice (with gloves), and watch as your kitchen fills with fog.
