Clean and Sanitize with Dry Ice

Food manufacturers must adhere to strict cleaning schedules and standards, and for good reason! We know that the health and safety of consumers are always the top priority for these facilities. That’s why they should know all about the properties of dry ice as an effective, all-natural, inexpensive cleaning tool.

Dry Ice Blasting

Dry ice blasting is a technique approved by the FDA and certified by the EPA as a method of cleaning industrial equipment. Solid CO2 pellets are blasted onto surfaces at high speeds to remove debris and pollutants. The pellets sublimate once they contact the surface, meaning that they turn into a gas immediately. Rather than abrasive blasting, it is gentler on surfaces than other materials commonly used in similar techniques. Dry Ice blasting leaves behind absolutely no residue.

Not only is this process good for the machines and the environment, but it’s better for employees too. Breathing in harsh chemicals and coming into contact with abrasive particles is an injury risk. Handling dry ice safely only means wearing the appropriate gear, such as gloves and goggles.

Cost

Dry ice blasting is much more cost-effective than other cleaning methods for several reasons. It is powerful and quick, so you can have your valuable machines up and running again sooner. Due to the mechanisms that dry ice uses to clean, you won’t have to use time and labor to dismantle anything before cleaning. Lastly, because no droplets or pellets will be left behind in the end, there will be no reason to have people wiping or scrubbing any residue from the machines. The cost of the process is almost entirely on the materials, which end up practically paying for themselves.

Will It Blast?

Dry ice blasting uses a combination of sublimation, impact, and super cold temperatures to blast away all unwanted substances. It will remove oils, flours, grease, caked-on grime, and anything else that collects on the equipment in your facility. This one-size-fits-all cleaning tool will not wear down the surfaces of your machines over time either, as some cleaning solutions and techniques are known to do.
